Our Mission

In 2015, Charlestown Residents United (CRU) was formed as a ballot advocacy group to support a $1M recreation bond for the Ninigret Master Plan. With 68% of voter support, the bond passed overwhelmingly, demonstrating the community's desire for a recreation component in the Open Space bond. This victory came after the town council at the time ignored residents' wishes.

Progress and Change

Significant change began with the 2022 election, resulting in more transparency, accountability, and inclusive decision-making. This transformation is a direct response to the previous council’s abuses, which led to the formation of CRU as a political action committee. Our efforts have culminated in the election of CRU candidates Deb Carney as the top vote-getter and council president for the past two election cycles, Rippy Serra as Vice President, and Councilors Stephen Stokes and Grace Klinger.

Community Involvement

Our members are deeply committed to making Charlestown a better community. They serve on town boards and commissions and contribute countless hours to local non-profits, fraternal, veterans, and business organizations.

Our Goals

  • Attract residents from all corners of Charlestown to participate in enhancing our community.

  • Support and elect candidates who listen to all residents, ensuring everyone is treated with fairness and respect.

  • Ensure town council members adhere to "Council Rules" when making appointments.

  • Promote honest public debates on issues rather than automatic agreement on every matter.

  • Advocate for transparent town business conducted in an open forum.

Why Now

We believe every voice in Charlestown is important and should be heard, and to continue working to put the TOWN back in Charlestown.

Join us in making Charlestown a community where everyone's voice counts.
