Lorna Persson - Town Council

Lorna has been a resident of Charlestown for the past 33 years, where her husband and she have worked and raised their 3 children. She grew up in Richmond, attended Chariho followed by an education at URI, graduating with a degree in Zoology. She worked at Pfizer for several years before settling into a 40 year career at The Nordic, a successful family-run restaurant in Town.
Lorna and Steve’s children attended the Meadowbrook Waldorf School where she was very involved in many leadership positions and currently serves as a Trustee on its Board. She is an active member of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church and has volunteered in a variety of positions including Church Council.
She currently is serving as a member of the Charlestown Economic Improvement Commission. She spends her off-time enjoying friends and family, dining out, traveling, hiking and shooting sporting clays.
Lorna believes that a healthy democracy begins at the local level and that town leadership should reflect the entire community. She is happy to be a part of a thriving community that welcomes retirees, young families and entrepreneurs. Lorna would strive for being a part of a Council that works to balance the maintenance our town’s rural character with thoughtful development, preservation of land owner’s rights, and a Ninigret Park that is enjoyed & shared by all in our community.
If elected, she pledges to:
-
Listen to her constituents and fellow councilors,
-
Educate herself and her community about issues that are important to all townspeople,
-
Respect the interests and ideas of many,
-
Balance a broad spectrum of visions and ideals when making decisions, creating policy and governing.
