July 10 Town Council Meeting Preview

The Charlestown Town Council is having their first meeting of July on Monday, July 10 starting at 7:00 pm.

The Council will start with an Executive Session at 6:15 to discuss acquisition of the property at the corner of South County Trail and New Biscuit City Road that borders on the Pawcatuck River and could serve as a river access point. The Council held an Executive Session on this topic on May 22, reported here (near the end of the article).

The agenda and supporting documents for the 7 pm meeting can be read here.

Here are some of the interesting topics:

  • Those of us who attend evening meetings at Town Hall have gotten to know the friendly and helpful Don Black. The Council will be giving him a Certificate of Appreciation on His Retirement. We will miss him.

  • Appointments to the Zoning Board of Review will be discussed. Five positions are listed as available for appointment. Applications can be seen starting here.

  • The Council will hold the public hearing on the proposed ordinance on public use of cannabis products.

  • The Council will continue discussion of potential scheduling of a special meeting, concerning Potential Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance to Allow Subdivision Options Regarding Cluster and Conservation Development.

  • The Council will discuss awarding a bid for an update of the Ninigret Park master plan.

As usual, people may attend in person or online through WebEx, as described in the agenda. People watching online will not be able to comment or ask questions. The video of the session should be available for viewing in the morning after the meeting on the meetings page. It will be down the page in the Past Meetings section.
