Memorial Weekend Parades

Memorial weekend is the time to reflect on the sacrifices of those who died in active military service. Honor our military by attending one of this weekend's parades.

On Sunday get down to Cross Mills to pick out a spot along the parade route well before the 1 pm start time. The parade starts at Compass Hardware (Old Post Rd. at Ridgewood Rd.) and goes nearly to Charlestown Wine and Spirits (King Tom Dr.). The good spots, with some shade, get crowded. Bring some seats and something to drink. The weather will probably be great, with partly cloudy skies. And don't miss the food and ceremonies in Ninigret Park right after the parade ends, around 2 pm.

On Monday, be sure to check out the parade in Carolina Village on Rt 112. Many people don't think about this smaller cousin to the Cross Mills parade but the village is gorgeous and the parade retains the short, sweet, and local flavor that makes it fun. This parade starts at the Richmond-Carolina fire station and moves south to St. Mary's Catholic Church (south of Rt. 91). We would suggest looking for a parking place at the Carolina Baptist Church, 504 Carolina Back Road.
